Have you recently been through a divorce? Are you feeling the impact of the divorce in ways that you didn't plan for? After my divorce, my kids and I went through several months where they were angry and I felt like a complete failure. It was almost a year before I decided to begin seeing a family therapist to help us get through such a difficult transitional time for the entire family. She was so understanding, compassionate and helpful. She helped us talk through our feelings and provided us with the tools that we needed to get through the most difficult time in our lives.

Many parents spend a great deal of time worrying about their children. They wonder what they can do to teach their children correct principles and help them be prepared for the "real world." Although there are many things that parents can do to help their children, here are three things that every parent should do.
1. Teach Your Children How To Talk To Adults
Many parents worry about how their children will act around their peers. They want their children to be accepted by their friends and not be bullied at school. Although getting along with peers is important for the child's social success, learning how to talk and interact with adults, is an important trait for creating success in an individual.
Your child should learn that authority is nothing to be intimidated by. For instance, when they talk to their teacher, do they converse comfortably and ask questions when things are unclear? If not the child may not be able to talk to their boss, teachers in college, or even authority in a way that is beneficial to them. This is why you should start teaching the child at a young age how to be respectful and converse with adults.
2. Teach Your Children How To Work
Chores should be instigated at a young age for all children. It is important that children realize that each person has to learn how to care for themselves. For example, does your child help with chores around the house? Do they know that things don't magically get cleaned up after them, that someone has to do it? If they don't start seeing that they play a role in keeping things running smoothly, they might have a hard time when they need to live on their own.
3. Teach Your Children That Persistence Is Just As Important As Winning
Failure is simply part of life. Anyone who is successful has failed at one point. It is vital that children learn that they shouldn't be ashamed when they fail. Instead, it should be a chance for them to learn and to try again.
This will come from how you talk to your child about failure. If you shame them when they fail, they will believe it is something to be ashamed of, and might even stop trying. Instead, when they fail, take the time to talk it through with the child and use it as a learning experience.
These are just a few things you can do to help your child succeed. For more in-depth information, contact a professional company, like Pregnancy Resources, for resources and parenting classes.
