After my divorce, my kids and I went through several months where they were angry and I felt like a complete failure. It was almost a year before I decided to begin seeing a family therapist to help us get through such a difficult transitional time for the entire family. She was so understanding, compassionate and helpful. She helped us talk through our feelings and provided us with the tools that we needed to get through the most difficult time in our lives.

Different Types Of Spiritual And Holistic Counseling And What They Can Offer

Sometimes psychological counseling can only take your healing process so far. You may feel that you are lacking something or missing something that can help you fill in the final healing pieces you need. That is where spiritual and holistic healing may be of benefit to you. There are many different types of spiritual and holistic healing, and each of these has something to offer which can help you on your individual healing journey.

Christian Counseling Programs

Many Christian faiths have programs to help those through death and grief, divorce and assault and battery situations. Connecting to your faith is one way in which you can feel whole again. You gain insight into the possible reasons why you found yourself drawn into the situations you were/are in, and how you can draw closer to God (as you understand him or believe in him) in order to heal or prevent these situations in the future. While faith healing works for many, it does limit you to what types of counseling and help you can seek. (On the other hand, Isha healing and/or holistic healing helps you in ways Christian counseling programs may not be able to.)

Isha Healing

Isha healing is based on two related branches of spiritual and holistic healing. The physical branch consists of yoga, meditation and Indian massage techniques. The clinical aromatherapy addresses healing through smell and aligning one's chakras with herbal essences and oils. It is thought that if you can use yoga and aromatherapy to put your chakras in alignment and elevate your mood and mind, then you can become more connected to your healed self. Talking through your thoughts and experiences after your yoga, meditation and aromatherapy sessions can further enlighten and heal you. Isha yoga and healing are some of the major tenets practiced by Sadhguru, the founder of the institute and ashrams of the same name. 

Holistic Life Counseling

Holistic life counseling encourages you to let go of the past and focus on your future. It asks people to examine their lives and make plans for how they can have a better, happier and more well-balanced life going forward. You may spend years in therapy with a traditional therapist, but often patients get stuck on what has traumatized them and what they still feel about that. Holistic healing helps you move beyond the trauma in a very different way. In includes changes in diet, medicine, habits thoughts and feelings, treating the whole person and not just the emotional and psychological aspects of your being.
